Gulf Harbour School

“Sport has the power to change the world, the power to inspire, the power to unite people in a way that little else can. It speaks to people in a language they understand” Nelson Mandela

The lessons learned by participation in sport are an invaluable part of life; through sport we learn who we are and what we value. Whether a student is participating as an individual or as part of a team, sport provides them with a unique sense of belonging; they learn to take sensible risks, conquer their fears, increase their confidence and ultimately develop positive attitudes towards their own and others well-being, valuing the importance of physical activity in creating a healthy lifestyle.

Gulf Harbour School offers students the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of sports such as:

  • Softball
  • Swimming
  • Cricket
  • Golf
  • Soccer
  • Rippa Rugby
  • Hockey
  • Basketball
  • Cross Country
  • Netball
  • Touch
  • Athletics

Every student has the opportunity to compete in sporting activities at Gulf Harbour School whether they are competitive or just want to learn new skills through physical activity. If there is a sport that a student would like to participate in and it is not listed above then arrangements can be made for this to happen. If there is a tournament we will find it and support our students to make it to this event.

At Gulf Harbour School we value every sporting opportunity as a learning opportunity, our students like to get out there and compete with other schools. We have a range of talented students who love sport, are passionate about it and want to give anything a go.

Additionally, our school is very fortunate to have Sport Gulf Harbour offering after school sports programmes for children. Refer

Zone Days:

We believe it is important for our children to represent their school and compete.  We are able to offer our children opportunities in the following areas

• Inter-school sporting Events: Our students take part in these Inter-school events throughout the year (Cricket, Swimming, Soccer, Hockey, Netball, Cross Country, Touch, Athletics), where they compete against schools from the Hibiscus Coast.

• Inter-School Year 7/8 Events: The schools from the Hibiscus Coast that have Year 7/8 students got together to create more sporting events for our students.

• North Harbour Events: Our school is a part of the North Harbour Sports association. This means that our Year 7/8 students get to compete against schools from this side of the bridge as well as going through to Auckland championships when they qualify. When our students attend these events they are up against the very top students from these schools, this enables them to gain skills and insight from other athletes.

Other Information:

  • North Harbour Cross Country: Gulf Harbour School organises and runs this. This event takes place at Shakespear Regional Park and Year 7/8 competitors from 18 schools come tocompete at this event.
  • Parent Helpers: During our sporting events we require parent help with transport and support of our students at these events. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our amazing parents - without you we would not be able to attend many of these events, we truly value your support.
  • Yummy Stickers: You can buy Yummy sticker products such as apples from New World, Pak N Save and Four Square. The Yummy stickers that we collect will be converted into a winning share of the $200,000 sports prize pool from Champs Sports. • PE Uniform: Gulf Harbour School students are required to wear the Sports uniform during all PE lessons and all sporting events. This is available for purchase from the school uniform shop.
